What is the purpose of the Hampton
Neighborhood Development Partnership? The Hampton Neighborhood Development
Partnership (HNDP) is a 501(c) 3 organization whose mission is “to improve neighborhoods in the City of Hampton by working with charitable, governmental, and
other organizations to identify and distribute resources that will enhance the
quality of life in Hampton
neighborhoods.” In short, the HNDP will distribute resources to support
activities that enhance Hampton’s
neighborhoods.

What does the HNDP do? The HNDP defines resources many different ways: for
example, money, time, people, hard work, expertise. The HNDP promotes the
development of Hampton’s
neighborhoods by:
- identifying resources
- soliciting resources and funds
- creating partnerships to leverage resources
and funds
- coordinating the use of resources and funds
- distributing funds

How can HNDP funds be used? The
HNDP will evaluate all requests for funding. The HNDP is able to support the
following activities:
- cultural
- educational
- recreational
- historic preservation
- community development
The
following is a list of examples of how funds may be used once an organization
receives funding from the HNPD. (Please
Note: These are examples of the types of activities supported by the HNDP. They
are not written to imply specific activities that must be undertaken or to
place limits on the types of activities the partnership will support over
time.) - supporting neighborhood focused community activities, such as
Neighborhood Month events
- highlighting the culture and history of that community through the
preservation of historic resources and the development of cultural learning
centers
- building
organizational capacity and attending trainings
- board
development activities
- funding to support neighborhood leadership development
- conducting recreational activities aimed at youth, seniors and homebound
adults
- first-time homebuyer education classes
- engaging in larger scale community development activities, in
coordination with neighborhood organizations and other partners, including acquiring and rehabbing blighted
property with the purpose of encouraging investment in neighborhoods

Where does the HNDP get funds? The HNDP will seek financial support from the
following sources:
- grants (Local, State and Federal)
- foundations (Local, State and National)
- financial institutions
- local businesses
- private donations
Please note: Since the
HNDP is a tax deductible charitable organization donors can receive a tax
credit for their donation.
5. What is the structure
of the HNDP? The
HNDP is composed of a volunteer board of up to 25 directors who serve three year terms.
6. Who are our Customers? Our customers
are neighborhood associations and community organizations who want to improve Hampton’s neighborhoods. 7. What happens to my donation if the project doesn't happen or the organization is dissolved? Under our fiscal sponsorship agreement with an organization, HNDP retains full discretion and control over the use of such funds to accomplish the charitable purposes of the approved program or project. This power includes the unilateral right to redirect funds to a different beneficiary who can accomplish the purposes of this program if for some reason the organization cannot.
